Yet Another Mix Network / current remailer
YAMN today.
YAMN is the anonymous remailer software and network represented by the current crooks/yamn implementation. It is distinct from Yamnweb.
01 / CURRENT YAMN
The remailer implementation.
YAMN stands for Yet Another Mix Network. The current reference software is published in the crooks/yamn repository. It provides client, remailer and pinger functions for the active YAMN network.
YAMN follows the layered-remailer model while using newer cryptographic building blocks than historical Mixmaster software, including AES, NaCl Box and BLAKE2. Deterministic header padding is used to resist tagging attacks.
Terminology: on this site, “YAMN” means this current remailer software, protocol and network. It does not mean Yamnweb or Nym Network.
02 / NETWORK
Entry, Middle and Exit.
A YAMN client encrypts a fixed-format packet in layers for a selected remailer chain. Each hop removes only its own layer, mixes and delays traffic, and forwards the remaining packet.
- A YAMN Entry receives the prepared packet.
- One or more Middle remailers process and forward it.
- A YAMN Exit performs the concrete final SMTP delivery, either to email or to a Mail-to-News gateway.
03 / VICTOR
A current YAMN middle remailer.
Victor participates in the active YAMN v2 network as a middle-only remailer. It processes and forwards packets but is not selected for final SMTP delivery.

05 / SEPARATE EVOLUTION
Yamnweb explores the next direction.
Yamnweb is a separate Virebent project. It uses Nym Network before the current YAMN network, carrying an opaque YAMN-compatible envelope through a controlled Nym Entry before ordinary YAMN routing begins.
This is an evolutionary direction for the submission path, not the definition of current YAMN and not a rename of the crooks/yamn project.
